| WONG GOES WIRE-TO-WIRE FOR
“The second and third days were really windy but it didn’t affect me. I hit straight and my iron shots were tight.”
Wong, playing under par in all four rounds finished at 12-under, followed by Justin Shin of Maple Ridge in second at seven-under. Shin fired six-under par 66 for the low round of the day. “Justin shot really well on the front nine,” says Wong. “He was nipping at my heels and I had to step it up.” Riley Wheeldon of Comox stands alone in third at one-under par, while Charlie Hughes of Maple Ridge and John Neufeld of Courtenay tied for fourth at two-over par. Wong will not be playing in the Canadian Junior Boys’ Championship as he has been given a presidential exemption into the Pacific Coast Amateur that goes that same week in Victoria at Royal Colwood August 5-8. Shin , Wheeldon, Hughes and Neufeld will make up the B.C. Team for the Canadian Junior Boys’ Championship at Edmonton Petroleum Golf & Country Club in Edmonton, Alberta August 4-8, 2008. Earlier today, each of the three competitors in the day’s final group was assessed a one-shot penalty at the ninth hole for failing to adhere to the BCGA pace of play policy. Following the round, the assessed penalty was appealed. The penalty was reviewed and stood as applied. The B.C. Junior Boys’ Championship is one of 12 provincial championships conducted annually by the BCGA. WONG HOLDS TOP SPOT HEADING INTO JUNIOR BOYS’ FINAL KAMLOOPS, B.C. (July 10, 2008) – North Vancouver’s Eugene Wong has opened up an eight-shot lead heading into the final round of the 2008 British Columbia Junior Boys’ Championship at Rivershore Estates & Golf Links in Kamloops, B.C. Wong fired 3-under 69 today and stands at 10-under 206 through 54 holes. John Koo of Langley made a move up the leaderboard firing 2-under 70 for the day to sit in second place at 2-under 214. Justin Shin of Maple Ridge stumbled at the turn with bogeys at holes 9, 10, 11, 13 and 14 to slip to third at 1-under 215. Jonnie Motomochi of Delta rounds out the top four at even-par 216. The final round goes Friday morning at 7:30 AM from the #1 and #10 tees. The top four finishers will represent B.C at the Canadian Junior Boys’ Championship at Edmonton Petroleum Golf & Country Club in Edmonton, Alberta August 4-8, 2008. The B.C. Junior Boys’ Championship is open to male amateur golfers who have not reached their 19th birthday by midnight, July 11, 2008. The championship is conducted as stroke play over 72 holes. The B.C. WONG MAINTAINS LEAD AT 2008 B.C. JUNIOR BOYS’ CHAMPIONSHIP -FIELD CUT TO LOW 70- KAMLOOPS, B.C. (July 9, 2008) – Eugene Wong of North Vancouver followed up his impressive opening round of 6-under par 66 with a solid second round of 1-under par 71 to maintain the lead at the 2008 British Columbia Junior Boys’ Championship at Rivershore Estates & Golf Links in Kamloops, B.C. Wong got to 3-under par after nine holes, but then three bogeys and only one birdie on the back left him at a total 7-under 137. Heading into the third round tomorrow, Wong has a three shot lead over Justin Shin of Maple Ridge sitting at 4-under 140. Thomas Hay of Langley, the only other player under par sits in third at 1-under 143. A handful of other junior boys lurk within a few strokes of claiming a spot on the Willingdon Cup team. John Koo of Langley and John Neufeld of Courtenay share fourth at even-par 144. Graham Osborne of Comox, Morgan Leigh of Surrey and Jonnie Motomochi of Delta are tied for fifth at 1-over 145. The top 70 boys will tee-off in the third round commencing Thursday morning at 7:30 AM from the #1 and #10 tees. Three golfers are tied at 70. The top four finishers will represent B.C at the Canadian Junior Boys’ Championship at Edmonton Petroleum Golf & Country Club in Edmonton, Alberta August 4-8, 2008. RIVERSHORE ESTATES & GOLF LINKS SET TO HOST 2008 B.C. JUNIOR BOYS' CHAMPIONSHIP KAMLOOPS, B.C. (July 7, 2008) – British Columbia’s top male junior amateurs are set to battle for the Bower Trophy as they prepare for the 2008 British Columbia Junior Boys’ Championship from July 8 – 11 at Rivershore Estates & Golf Links in Kamloops, B.C. Reigning Canadian Juvenile champion Eugene Wong of North Vancouver and 2007 B.C. Juvenile champion Bryan Lichimo of North Vancouver, will look to capture the junior title with last year’s junior champion Zach MacDougall of Coquitlam graduating from the junior ranks. Wong captured the inaugural B.C. Fresh Egg Cup in May and currently sits second on the BCGA Order of Merit Players to watch for include; National Development Team member and 2008 CN Future Links Pacific champion Riley Wheeldon of Comox, 2007 B.C. Boys’ Match Play champion Andy Yang of Coquitlam, and 2007 Investors Group Junior Boys’ Match Play champion Justin Shin of Maple Ridge. This marks the first time the B.C. Junior Boys’ Championship has been played at Rivershore Estates & Golf Links. Designed and constructed by legendary golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, Rivershore is acknowledged as a world-class facility that hosted the B.C. Men’s Mid-Amateur in 1998, the B.C. Women’s Amateur in 1985 and the B.C. Amateur in 1984 and 1987. Many of Canada’s biggest names in golf, both past and present have been crowned B.C. Junior Boys’ champion including 2007 Canadian Men’s Amateur champion Nick Taylor (2006), Golf Hall of Famer Doug Roxburgh (1969, 1970) as well as Canadian Tour member James Lepp (2002) and current PGA Tour members Jim Rutledge (1977) and Fred Couples (1978).
