MEIXNER STELLAR IN FINAL ROUND TO WIN 2008 B.C. WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

 -MEIXNER FIRES CHAMPIONSHIP RECORD-

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. (July 4, 2008) – Battling hot weather and a tough course set-up, Kira Meixner of Delta, B.C. carded a spectacular final round 7-under 66 to successfully defend the 2008 B.C Women’s Amateur title by five strokes at the Williams Lake Golf & Tennis Club.

Just two strokes off the lead when the final round began, Meixner fired eight birdies and only one bogey to surge to victory at 17-under 275 over Kirby Dreher of Fort St. John at 12-under 280.

“I really enjoyed the course,” says Meixner. “I wasn’t playing my fellow competitors today – I was playing against the course.”

Meixner’s play not only passed the women’s course record set on Wednesday by fellow Kent State teammate Dreher, she set a personal record and championship record, carding the lowest score in championship history.

“I’m planning on turning professional,” says Meixner. “I’ll play the CN Canadian Women’s Open as an amateur and decide my future after that.”

Sue Kim of Langley rallied to third place and a spot on the provincial team with a final 1-under 291. Jackie Little of Port Alberni secured the final provincial team spot and fourth place after she chipped in for birdie on the second hole of a playoff with Marli Mikulecky of Osoyoos.

Kira Meixner, Jackie Little, Kirby Dreher and Sue Kim will comprise the B.C. Team for the Royale Cup National Women's Amateur Championship at Elmhurst Golf & Country Club in Winnipeg, MB. July 28 - August 1.

CORRECTION: Jackie Little closed with a 3-under par 70 yesterday to win her third straight B.C. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship with 2-over par 221.

The Women’s Amateur, considered the “major” women’s amateur golf in the region is also one of the oldest sporting competitions in the province, with the winner taking home the prestigious Flumerfelt Cup.

JACKIE LITTLE WINS THIRD STRAIGHT MID-AMATEUR TITLE

- DREHER AND MEIXNER IN THE HUNT AT THE B.C. WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP-

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. (July 3, 2008) –  Jackie Little closed with a 3-under par 70 today to win her third straight B.C. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship with 2-over par 221 at the Williams Lake Golf & Tennis Club.

“'I'm very happy with my play,” says Little. “I played nice and steady. If I missed the green, I got up and down. I’m feeling good and everything went as I wished it to go. My goals are being met – everything is falling into place.”

First-round leader Kim Evans of Terrace struggled to a three-over 76 to card a final 9-over 228 for second place followed by 2007 Canadian Senior Women’s champion, Alison Murdoch of Victoria at 16-over 235 and Phyllis Laschuk of Vancouver at 19-over 238.

In the B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship, Kirby Dreher of Fort St. John fired a third-round 3-under par 70 to maintain the lead at 12-under 207 heading into the final round. Defending champion, Kira Meixner of Delta carded an eagle and six birdies for 5-under 68 and a total 10-under 209 to sit in second place.

Anica Yoo of Port Coquitlam holds steady in third at 3-under 216 followed by Sue Kim of Langley at 2-under 217. Kim, a member of Canada’s National Women’s Team, came into the championship riding high off her recent wins in two consecutive CN Canadian Women’s Tour events.

Competition is heating up as Dominique Pytlewski sitting in fifth and Jessica Potter in sixth are just two strokes out of contention and ready to challenge Kim and Yoo for the final spots on the provincial team.

The final round tees off Thursday morning at 8 am with the top four finishers representing B.C. at the Royale Cup National Women's Amateur Championship at Elmhurst Golf & Country Club in Winnipeg, MB. July 28 - August 1.

KIRBY DREHER VAULTS INTO LEAD AT
BC WOMEN'S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. (July 1, 2008) – Kirby Dreher of Fort St, John, fired a women’s course record 6-under 67, to vault into the lead heading into the third round at the B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship at the Williams Lake Golf & Tennis Club in Williams lake, B.C.

Dreher, seized the lead after first-day leaders Kira Meixner of Delta carded even-par 73 and Sue Kim faltered shooting a 6-over 79. Meixner sits in second at 141 while Kim moved to a tie for fifth place at 147.

“I had lots of chances for birdies,” said Dreher who carded seven birdies and only one bogey. “I played decent; my goal was to just play better than yesterday. Tomorrow I’ll play with the same energy as today – hit the fairways and the greens and still shoot pretty low.”

Anica Yoo of Port Coquitlam recorded 1-under 72 to move into third place at 143. Kyla Inaba of Kelowna sits one stroke back of Yoo at 144 for fourth.

Jackie Little of Port Alberni, B.C. leads the Mid-Amateur competition with a one-stroke lead over yesterday’s leader, Kim Evans of Terrace. Little sits at 151 while Evans is in second at 152. Erika Ramberg of Vancouver is in third at 156 followed by Canadian Senior Women’s champion, Alison Murdoch at 158.

The championship calls for 72 holes of stroke play with a cut to top 40 with ties after 3 days at the Amateur level. The Mid-Amateur level plays 54 holes with no cut. Round three will commence tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. from the #1 tee.

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. (July 1, 2008) – Defending champion, Kira Meixner of Delta, B.C. and Sue Kim of Langley, B.C. both fired a sizzling 5-under par 68 to take the early lead at the B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship at the Williams Lake Golf & Tennis Club in Williams lake, B.C.

Meixner and Kim have a two-stroke lead on Kirby Dreher of Fort St. John, B.C. who opened with a 3-under 70 to sit in third place. Anica Yoo of Port Coquitlam, B.C. rounds out the top four at two-under par 71.

Meixner and Kim are teammates on the National Women’s Amateur Team. Meixner earned an exemption into the CN Canadian Women’s Open following her play to the round of eight at the British Ladies’ Amateur earlier this month. Kim opened the 2008 season by capturing two consecutive CN Canadian Women’s Tour titles which also secured her an early exemption into the CN Canadian Women’s Open.

In the B.C. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, Kim Evans of Terrace, B.C. carded even par to sit at the top of the leaderboard. WILLIAMS LAKE GOLF & TENNIS CLUB SET TO HOST 2008 BC WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. (June 27, 2008) – British Columbia’s top female amateurs will battle for top honours next week as they prepare for the 2008 B.C. Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships from June 1 – 4 at Williams Lake Golf & T ennis Club in Williams Lake, B.C.

Conducted by the British Columbia Golf Association (BCGA), the B.C. Women’s Amateur Championship features the province’s top female players including members of the National Women’s Amateur and Development Teams.

Reigning British Columbia Women’s champion and National Women’s Amateur Team member, Kira Meixner of Delta, B.C., will look to capture her second title. Meixner, will be joined by fellow National Women’s Amateur Team member Sue Kim, of Langley, B.C. and National Amateur Development Team member, Jessica Potter of Coquitlam, B.C.

Meixner earned an exemption into the CN Canadian Women’s Open following her play to the round of eight at the British Ladies’ Amateur earlier this month. Kim opened the 2008 season by capturing two consecutive CN Canadian Women’s Tour titles which also secured her an early exemption into the CN Canadian Women’s Open.

Other national and provincial champions competing include 5-time B.C. Women's champion, Jackie Little of Port Alberni, B.C. and Alison Murdoch of Victoria, B.C. Little, is the newly-crowned B.C. Senior Women’s champion, defending B.C. Mid-Amateur champion and Canadian Mid-Amateur champion. In 2007, Murdoch captured three national titles: the 2007 Royale National Women’s Senior Championship, the Irish Senior Ladies Amateur Championship and the Senior Ladies’ British Amateur Championship.

This marks the first time the British Columbia Women’s Amateur Championship has been played at Williams Lake Golf & Tennis Club. The last time Williams Lake Golf & tennis Club held a provincial championship was in 2000 when they hosted two - the B.C. Junior Boys’ and the B.C. Juvenile Boys’.

The championship calls for 72 holes of stroke play in the a mateur level including a club and zone championship. The m id- a mateur level calls for 54 holes of stroke play. Play will commence at 7:00 a.m. from the #1 tee each day.
