Christina Spence captains universiade team

2006 BC Women’s Amateur Champion, Christina Spence of Port Alberni, B.C., from the University of Victoria and Lee French of London, Ont., from Humber College will captain Canada’s golf teams at the 2007 Summer Universiade in Bangkok, Thailand August 14 – 17, 2007.

Spence, the winner of the RCGA College Championship in Fredricton, N.B., leads the charge with Vikes teammate, Anne Balser of Digby, N.S., as well as Gab Dugre of La Sarre, Que., from Laval University, Shauna Wilde of Mississauga, Ont., from Humber College and Melissa Core of Beaconsfield, Que., from UBC.

On the men’s side, Lee French will be joined by teammatem Mike Zizek of Mississauga, ONt., Warerloo’s Jud Whiteside of Thornhill, Ont., Jade Dennill of Naksup, B.C. from UVic, Darren Roach of Quispamsis, N.B., from UNB and Patrick Forbes of Toronto, Ont., from Quenn’s.

Scoring at the Universiade will be different from traditional North American team competitions, with the women using two of three scores daily and the men using three of four. The remaining two golfers on each team will play as individuals with head coach, Ray Chateau of Humber College.
