TELUS World Skins Game Returns To
The event will take place Monday, June 16 and Tuesday, June 17 and will feature five of the top names in international golf, each representing a different country. The intimate, relaxed setting of the Skins Game format allows players to engage with the cameras and the crowds as they compete against each other for pride and prize money at the picturesque Predator Ridge. “We are thrilled to bring the TELUS World Skins Game back to Predator Ridge and the beautiful Okanagan Valley,” said Steve Podborski, executive director of TELUS Sport Marketing. “As one of the most beautiful golf courses in the country, in a region with some of the most passionate fans, TELUS is confident that Predator Ridge will be a perfect host for some of the biggest names in professional golf.” This return of the TELUS World Skins to Predator Ridge, the site of the 2000 Skins Game, marks only the second time in the event’s history that it will return to a golf course that has previously played host. Whistler, B.C.’s Nicklaus North Golf Course hosted the event in 1997 and 2005. Tickets for the 2000 Skins Game at Predator Ridge sold out in less than a day, a record that stands to this day. Fans were treated to a thrilling match as Fred Couples won seven skins for $135,000 for a narrow victory over Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson and Canada’s own Mike Weir. The TELUS World Skins Game is a highlight of the Canadian summer sporting schedule, not only for Canadian golf fans, but for the local community as well. TELUS partners each year for the event with a charitable organization that aligns with TELUS’ goal of making the future friendly for Canada’s youth. Fulfilling TELUS’ promise to “give where we live”, the 2008 TELUS World Skins charity partner will be the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, provider of expert care for the province’s most seriously ill or injured children. “Last year, more than 2,000 children in the Thompson-Okanagan region made more than 5,400 visits to BC Children’s Hospital,” said Sue Carruthers, president and CEO of BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. “Thousands of sick and injured children from Okanagan communities will benefit from our partnership with the 2008 TELUS World Skins Game. TELUS has been a long-standing contributor to the Hospital and this partnership demonstrates, once again, the dedication of TELUS and its employees to improving child health in our province.” Predator Ridge is consistently ranked as one of the finest golf courses in the country and is one of only two public golf courses in Western Canada to be named in Score Magazine’s Canadian Top 25 for the past eight years. Opened in 1991, Predator Ridge features an incredible 27-hole layout along with a world-class surrounding community. The resort also boasts swimming pools, AVEDA™ spa, fitness centre, restaurants and a new golf course in the making. Speaking for Predator Ridge, Randy Zien said “we are honoured and proud to be able to bring the TELUS World Skins Game back to Predator. Our staff, our homeowners, and the entire community are ready to deliver the best Skins Game ever.” The TELUS Skins Game, an event owned and operated by IMG in Canada for 16 years, has included many of the biggest names in the game including Jack Nicklaus, Sergio Garcia, and the defending back-to-back champion, John Daly.
