Terence Whitaker

WHITAKER, Terence Arthur March 4, 1922 December 30, 2007 Terry Whitaker passed away from complications of many illnesses, on December 30, 2007, in his 86th year. Dad was a long-time resident of John Dean Park, North Saanich, on Vancouver Island near Victoria. He grew up in the Dunbar area of Vancouver and was a member of the Vindex Football Club.

A World War II Navy Veteran, Rotarian and Shriner, Dad worked for Imperial Oil Ltd. in Dawson Creek, Kamloops, Vancouver and finally Victoria until his early medical retirement in 1980. Golf was Dad's passion and he devoted twenty-two years to working as a Governor with the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) and as a Director with the British Columbia Golf Association (BCGA). He had recently received the BCGA Honorary Director Award for lifetime achievement. Dad's great Irish wit, humor and love of life will be profoundly missed by his family and friends as will his marvelous caricatures of life's comical moments. "Matey" was predeceased by his grandson, Christopher Caunter, in July 2007. Terry is remembered with love by his wife Doris, daughter Melinda, son Liam, daughter-in-law Colleen, and grandchildren Samantha and Cameron. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Palliative Care Unit of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital would be appreciated. A small family service will be held at a later date.
